LiYCY Meaning
LiYCY is the abbreviated designation of the cable type, which follows the naming rules of the German standard DIN VDE 0281 and the European standard HD 22.4. Each letter stands for its specific construction and characteristics. Here is what LiYCY means:
- L for multi-core cables (German: Leitung, meaning “conductor”).
- i indicates that the core insulation is PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
- Y means the outer sheath is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
- C means the cable has a shield (usually a braided tinned copper wire shield).
- Y again indicates that the outer sheath is made of PVC (polyvinyl chloride).
This type of cable is suitable for use when transmitting multiple signals or power, and has excellent oil resistance and flexibility. Similar cables under the same standard are LiYY and LiYCY-JZ. The difference between LiYY and LiYCY is that LiYY does not have a shield in its construction.
